A third of Britons plan to be greener in 2008, a new survey claims. Honda reckons that the extreme flooding that blighted many parts of the UK last year has prompted more people to take a bigger interest in environmental matters - including the sort of car they drive.

This black bin sack on wheels is really a Peugeot 308 CC. With underpinnings and engines from the regular 308 hatchback, the CC is expected to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2009, with sales kicking off just in time for next summer.

I’ll get right to the point: Ryan Newman won $1,508,045 for winning the Daytona 500. Not bad work if you can get it.
Runner up and teammate Kurt Busch also won over a million with $1,083,870.
Last place finisher Kenny Wallace made $266,735 and all the Dale Jr. fans shouldn’t feel bad for him with his 9th place finish as it got him $352,920. — Gregg Ellman

My husband loves those ginormous Chinese buffets that offer miles upon miles of gleaming, steaming cuisine. He takes a deep breath and a warmed plate and wades in to lay waste to the landscape; basically, heâÂÂs all about quantity. I, however, am not quite so excited by those prospects. You see, I know the kung pao chicken, mu shu pork and lo mein arenâÂÂt going to live up to the hype. In the end, regardless of how much I choose to load on my plate, IâÂÂm going to come away unsatisfied. I had that same experience driving the Mazda6. It looked really pretty in my driveway and has an impressive list of features and options. By all indications, it should be a great car, yet I found it to be extraordinarily mediocre. Not unlike that Chinese restaurant, I was left feeling somewhat empty.

Since I have been in Japan, I have had the opportunity to cover all sorts of events at Tsukuba Circuit. I have seen everything from time attack cars trying to break the course record to pro drifters sliding through the track’s tight corners in tandem. While that stuff is quite impressive, seeing and hearing a full grid of about 30 vintage micro cars come through the esses and into the first hairpin is something that it is hard to beat for the sheer spectacle of it.

Two weeks ago to the day, Frank Williams provided a heads-up on the impact of the coming credit crunch on new car sales. Automotive News [AN, sub] now reports that some small regional banks have stopped making loans through auto dealerships. Even the big boy’s auto loan departmentsâ Chase Auto Finance, AmeriCredit Corp., Wells Fargo Auto Finance, Mechanics Bank and Sovereign Bankâ are reining-in their metaphorical horns. And that’s led “many would-be consumers to buy cheaper models, or purchase a used vehicle instead. If customers with shaky credit can get loans at all, often they must make a bigger down payment, pay higher interest rates and accept loans of shorter duration.” And here’s the kicker: “Consumers with subprime credit ratings buy nearly 30 percent of all new vehicles.” Oh wait, that’s not the kicker. This is: “Dealers are more dependent than ever on automakers’ captive lenders. The captives appear more willing than independent lenders to make subprime loans in what is shaping up as the worst year in a decade for new-vehicle sales.” Which will be true (the loan part) right until it isn’t. And if GMAC goes down, look for all Hell to break loose. Â

Although TTAC hasn’t posted on the new Knight Rider TV seriesâ why would we?â I still felt obliged to watch the premier on your behalf; just in case the show did something so stupid it deserved mention here. Other than the fact that a Ford Mustang GT500KR couldn’t outrun a Ford Edge, and KITT lived in a world populated entirely by Ford products, and the “shape shifting” KITT always transformed into a lower-priced, different colored Mustang (now there’s a disguise), and a Ford commercial featuring both the lead actor and the lead car confused me as to which was the commercial and which was, uh, the longer commercial and⌠where was I? Oh yes, I missed gay KITT. KITT’s new voice sounded like a “nice” HAL 9000 (i.e. monotone without the menace). Can I have a plausible plot line KITT? I’m sorry â- , I’m afraid I can’t do that. (What WAS that character’s name?) If the producers of this snoozefest had taken their cue from the original show (or, better yet, Woody Allen’s Sleeper) and camped-up KITT, they would have had a major HITT on their hands. There were hints; the chief baddie’s makeup-accented cheekbones and over-plucked eyebrows identified him as a closeted cross-dresser (which isn’t necessarily a gay predilection, but you know what I mean). I will say this: the babe had nice eyes. Â

I was rather impressed with the Edgeâs ability to keep up with KITT in that mountain scene. It was even able to achieve the shortest braking distance I have ever seen so as to avoid a head on with the semi.

The wheel did have a logo⌠Momo was what I caughtâŚ
The shameless plugging of Ford products was one thing, but the seemingly modified 500-600HP Edge? Um, Iâd buy one of those if it could keep up with a Shelby Mustang. And did you catch the physics bending climax where the 4500+ lb Tahoe slams into the Mustangâs side and the âstang doesnât even scoot sideways?

Thatâs what surprises me, the British unions once endorsed the TATA deal because the Indians were inclined to keep the brand a British entity.
Oh, and KITT wasnât a good pitchman for Foci.

I didnât watch the show, but a one-hour Ford commercial doesnât surprise me. Thatâs my second childhood show thatâs been turned into an automotive ad. The first, of course, being that silly Transformers/GM movie. Iâm still kicking myself for paying money to see that crap. Whatâs next, a new A-Team series where they drive nothing but a Dodge minivan? Oh damn, I hope I didnât give âem any ideasâŚ

I wasnât expecting the political statements:
1) The apparently lesbian FBI agent (why was that even necessary???)
2) The bad guys are in an organization called âBlack RiverââŚplease, itâs a show about a talking car that can do 300+ mph EXCEPT when trying to outrun an Edge. Itâs not âThe McLaughlin Groupâ.

Not familiar with Will Arnett? HavenâÂÂt you ever watched Arrested Development â the single greatest TV comedy of the last decade (donâÂÂt try to give me Curb Your Enthusiasm) â in which he played âÂÂGobâ Bluth II? Sadly, I guess nobody watched that showâÂÂŚ

The film stuck to the original and successful cult formula quite well. It had bad lines and acting, lots of tire-smoking car porn and ridiculous stunts. Even the Hoff reprised the role that made him famous, even if only for a few minutes. It also managed to be somewhat entertaining, moreso than I thought it would be. Too bad GM wasnât willing to donate a black Corvette ZO6 for the lead role. Or maybe they were smarter than that.

WFAA reports that the Dallas City Council will âconsiderâ creating a commission to “to help ensure that camera-enforced intersections are selected without regard to the ethnic or socioeconomic characteristics of the area in which the intersections are located.” A little history⌠In September of 2007, the Dallas city council approved 40 more red light cameras (for a total of 100), more than doubling the size of their contract with Affiliated Computer Services (”We believe the impossible is possible, and that giving up is not an option). In 2007, Dallas City Council member Angela Hunt asked her colleagues to delay the vote; she believed council members did not have adequate information on whether the cameras caused more rear-end collisions at intersections. In the end, the need to fill Dallasâ city coffers ruled the day: had the council delayed the vote, they would have been forced to plug a $140k hole in the â07 - â08 budget. Why? Revenue from the additional, yet-to-be-approved cameras was already included in the City Managerâs budget proposal. Meanwhile, Lubbock Texas turned off its red-light cameras on Feb. 15th, after a study showed an increase in rear-end collisions at all intersections in the Panhandle city. And now you know the news.

Even though GM says they have customers lined-up waiting for Enclaves because demand far outstrips production capability, Gasgoo reports they’re going to export them to China later this year. It looks like GM’s figured out how to expand their production capacity by at least 5k Enclaves, because that’s how many they plan to ship to the PRC to sell through their partnership with Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). When the Lambda-platformed CUV goes on sale in China in October, it will join the Park Avenue, LaCrosse, Regal, Excelle and GL8 models in Buick’s Chinese showrooms. Last year, Buick racked up over 332k sales in China, almost twice the units they moved in the U.S. Oh, and if I was on the U.S. waiting list for an Enclave, I’d have a royal conniption fit over this news. Just sayin’âŚ
