Chrysler Listens. And Responds!

More than a few members of TTAC’s Best and Brightest have joined the Chrysler Listens customer advisory board. We’re starting to get some of these comms back, and they’re about as revelaing as you’d imagine. Only more so.

This message is a follow-up to our chat with Steven Landry, EVP of North American Sales, Marketing, and Mopar® Parts and Service at Chrysler:

This is a follow-up to the e-mails we sent last week regarding the Fiat® alliance. At Chrysler, we are working tirelessly with the assistance of the U.S. auto task force to continue our progress in meeting the requirements set for us by the government. At this historic time, we need every one of our Customer Advisory Board members who support our ongoing efforts to get the word out to all our local, state and federal representatives that Chrysler is a viable business on a stand-alone basis.

How Can You Help:
As you know, we want to dispel some myths that you may have heard about the Fiat® alliance. Here are some additional facts you may wish to share when talking to friends, family, neighbors or engaging online in forums, commenting on blogs, adding to your Facebook™ profile and/or participating in Twitter(SM) as well as other social media.

Although these talking points are not officially “public”, as our trusted partners, we thought you might find them useful.

Our plans for a global alliance with Fiat® equals global business:

* The alliance provides consumers with a more well-rounded product line, including small and fuel-efficient vehicles.

* Most importantly, the Chrysler-Fiat® alliance increases our ability to repay the government loan sooner.

Log on to the Customer Advisory Board to continue in the Discussion on this topic. Thank you for helping us share the facts about our alliance plans over the next few days. We appreciate your support.

First Action Footage of Terminator Motorcycles revealed in Latest Terminator Salvation Trailer

We’ve come across the new Terminator Salvation trailer capturing the best of the movie which sets the action in 2018 when John Conner fights with machines lead by Skynet, an artificial intelligence program. The forces of evil are actually people abducted by Skynet and transformed in terminators, but we’re more interested in the terminator motorcycles and we also have a small hunch that these aren’t human-like terminators.

The video shows the bikes as being virtually indestructible as Conner hits a damaged car with a truck that he’s driving and sets it airborne. When landing on a terminator motorcycle chasing the truck, this is shown being little disturbed by the severe crash and continuing the chase.

REPORT: German automakers could join others in skipping Tokyo Motor Show

by Chris Paukert on Mar 23rd 2009 at 12:58PM

Although Volvo has already said that it would not participate in this October’s Tokyo Motor Show, the Swedish automaker’s German contemporaries are reportedly dragging their feet on similar public announcements in an effort to not be the first from their country to do so. According to a brief Automotive News item, BMW and Mercedes-Benz are “unlikely to participate” as part of an effort to limit expenditures, and Volkswagen AG and supplier Bosch are among those said to be on the fence.

Speaking about the pullout possibilities, an unnamed Automobilwoche (AN’s Germanic sister publication) source has said that “No one wants to be in the unpopular position of being the first to announce their exit.” Perhaps, but that didn’t stop Volvo from letting some air out of Tokyo’s balloons, nor did it keep the Detroit 3 from doing the same before them.

2010 Camaro, Mustang, Challenger: The Best Ever Ponycars

It’s almost exactly 20 years since I drove my first ponycar. Back then, I was editor of Australia’s Street Machine magazine — the Downunder equivalent of Car Craft — and in LA for a couple of days before heading to the Street Machine Nationals in Du Quoin, Illinois. Through my contacts at Holden, I’d managed to borrow a Pontiac Trans-Am. It was metallic brown, with the 245-hp L98 under the hood. And it was the biggest piece of crap I had ever driven.

Land Rover Discovery 2010 model year NOT scooped

Okay, okay. Hands up! We’ve miscredited the car pictured here as being the new, 2010 model year Discovery. Land Rover’s not showing the facelifted Disco until next month, and we thought this was the 2010 Disco out early. But we got this one wrong… it’s a bodykitted current gen Discovery.

We at CAR Online aren’t too big to admit when we were wrong, so here’s our correction. But the gist of the original story is still bang-on. So read on for the detail of the 2010 Disco – just ignore the bodykitted current model in our pictures!

So what is new on the 2010 Discovery?

Visually, it’ll be a minor facelift. There’s not much wrong with the Discovery’s Tonka-toy styling, so the Gaydon designers will keep the updates low-key, with updated bumper, grille and light details. Although we can’t see inside the new Disco, we hear there will be a tidied-up interior too.

And the mechanical changes to the 2010 model year Land Rover Discovery?

We’ve been writing for some time about the new family of engines being rolled out across the Land Rover and Jaguar ranges. The 2.7-litre V6 turbodiesel will continue on lower-spec Discoverys, but the new upgraded 3.0-litre V6 TD will feature, too, with new-gen common-rail systems operating at higher pressures for more precise fuel metering.

Although they will be small sellers in Europe, the 4.2 V8s will be replaced by the latest 5.0-litre direct-injection V8s. All engines offer more power and economy – crucial for this sensitive sector of the market.

You can read our verdict on the new engines in our first drives of the new Jaguar XK 5.0 and Jaguar XF 3.0 Diesel S.

What about the Range Rover family?

There’s change afoot here, too. Last week we reported on how the Land Rover LRX concept is to be rebadged as the production Range Rover LRX and shown in 2010 with showroom sales slated for 2011. But the group’s range-toppers, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, will also receive a makeover next month with the addition of these cleaner engines and a plethora of detail design changes.

Kyle Busch keeps brother trend going with win at Bristol

For the third consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup race a Busch brother has visited Victory Lane as Kyle took his turn with a dominating win at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday.

The younger Busch brother led 378 of the 503 laps and held off teammate Denny Hamlin in a green-white-checker finish to earn his second career win at the tiny half-mile track. Busch’s big brother, Kurt, won two weeks ago at Atlanta and Kyle won in Las Vegas. Kurt ended up 11th on Sunday.

Jimmie Johnson, one of the few other drivers to lead laps and challenge Kyle Busch on Sunday, finished third. Jeff Gordon ended the day fourth and Kasey Kahne rounded out the top five.

Pole-sitter Mark Martin (sixth) and Ryan Newman (seventh) each recorded their best finishes of the year and pulled themselves out of the top-35 owner points danger zone for next week’s race at Martinsville.
