Press’ Retirement is Latest Step in Chrysler’s Fiatization

One former colleague is especially loyal. “He gave his all when he was there,” the colleague said. Though still unofficial, Jim Press is leaving Chrysler Group LLC. The Wall Street Journal says his official departure will be at the end of 2009. And his title gives it all away, the impending departure having hidden in plain sight: deputy CEO and special advisor.

That “special advisor” title was tagged on when Fiat took over management control of Chrysler, with a minority stake, following the American automaker’s June bankruptcy reorganization. It sounds like the kind of title Toyota might have given him had he stayed there until 65, about three years from now.
